Travers partner to take senior role on secondment at RBS
Travers Smith litigation partner Toby Robinson is defined to try a secondment in the firm’s client RBS as interim head of litigation, regulatory and investigations.
Robinson will join RBS for a six-month period from February in 2010 whilst the current postholder is on leave.His secondment is definitely an unusual move for Travers, which rarely sends partners in-house. Recently the only partner to get been seconded from your firm with an in-house role continues to be corporate lawyer Anthony Foster, who joined the Bank of England for few months in ‘09.
Robinson is a partner at Travers since 2008, as he joined from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer where he was an associate inside banking institutions disputes group.
Travers finance partner Paul Lyons said: “The ongoing global financial trouble has seen an amazing boost in the incidence of regulatory investigations. In our experience hardly any banking institutions have been untouched with that development.
“The strength of our regulatory investigations group has led to an important rise in the amount of instructions in this region received coming from a various clients. It is very rare for all of us to second partners; we’re, however, delighted that Toby has been invited to battle this natural part within RBS.”
The news uses the firm has aligned on a string of high-profile deals lately, including advising Blacks Leisure on its administration, with the most Blacks’ assets sold to JD Sports in a very deal reportedly worth £20m.
The firm also took a lead role on Doughty Hanson’s £250m acquisition of gas and oil logistics company Asco with the close of this past year, advising the selling shareholders including Phoenix Equity Partners, Indigo Capital and Asco’s senior management team.
